How we came to celebrate Hall weeks here in UCC.

How we came to celebrate Hall weeks here in UCC and how it became a norm in all other Tertiary institutions.

Hall week celebrations have been a custom for most Tertiary institutions here in Ghana. It originated from the University of Cape Coast during its few years after its inauguration. It was  a colorful celebration with lots of Jamboree and fun.
Mass processessions were the main glue that held the tradition of Hall week celebrations together. It made the student Body come together as one unit under a night of crazy costumes and weird ceremonies. These ceremonies gave so much mysticism about the whole affair.
Well I've witnessed the local traditional council pouring Libation on several occasions, and there's the custom that children are'nt allowed to see the chief mascot who leads the Procession.

At times it gets inexcusably violent and aggressive especially when there's a hostile reception awaiting a hall's procession. But i guess it is in human nature to have such feuds.
I guess what makes it a lot of fun is the battle for supremacy as well well currently we can talk of the the Superpowers and the Superisimos. Relationships are strengthened during this period and theres just PURE Pleasure and FUN.

Thats why it saddened me to hear that the practice has been drawn to a halt by the university's Administration.

Our rival universty the at Legon, also has their Beach party celebrations called to a Halt.
I'd like to see a thread of interesting views from my readers and hopefully we can have the fun back in the celebrations. follow this conversation on twitter and facebook with the hashtag #fun_4_hallweek or the twitter handle rich_richard
